How will the Board of Education gather community feedback?
The Board of Education is dedicated to gathering community feedback throughout the realignment process. They have taken steps to ensure that students, families, and staff have meaningful opportunities to share their thoughts and concerns. This includes school visits and tours to understand each school’s unique environment.

When will the Board of Education’s decision be finalized?
The Board of Education is committed to providing updates at every second Board meeting of each month with updates on the Board’s engagement and work regarding the Task Force recommendations.

What is the role of the Board of Education in this process?
The Board of Education approved the seating of the Task Force members and received final recommendations from the Task Force. The Board is responsible for determining whether or not to approve or deny a school closure recommendation.

Why now?
The District is maximizing the opportunity for our students and being good stewards of our tax dollars.

Will the District consider more than one of the scenarios presented by the Task Force?
The District might consider more than one plan from the Task Force. But we're waiting to hear from the community first. We want to know what you think before making any decisions. Some scenarios have multiple options to consider, and some scenarios cannot happen together.

What happens next? What are the next steps?
The Task Force will review all feedback from the community. Using a QR code, you can share your thoughts in person at community forums or online. After that, the Task Force will make a recommendation to the District. The District will then review and share the recommendation with the Board of Education.

Don’t these scenarios affect students and families of color more?
No, the plans are based on the schools' needs, not who goes to them. The goal is to do what's best for all students.

Will this negatively impact students’ mental health or friendships?
The District and the Board want to keep students together with their friends, even if their school closes. They will also ensure students have the support they need because social and emotional needs are important.

Will this make transportation worse?
If any schools close, CCS will make sure families still have a way to get to school.

Will there be layoffs? Will there be fewer teachers, principals, and other staff?
The District does not anticipate staff reductions based on the closure/consolidation process. Staffing is based on student enrollment and programming needs.

Will more than one plan happen?
Decisions made in 2024-2025 School Year will not go into effect until 2026-2027 School Year, at the earliest. All the changes might take a few years to make.

Will there be more than one plan?
The final decision will be based on what the community wants. After that, the Board of Education will decide.

Why close schools if the city is growing?
The District is trying to ensure students have good places to learn. Some of the buildings are old and need a lot of money to keep them safe. The District wants to use money to help students learn better. According to the United Way, the city is growing, but not in terms of families moving into it.

What happens when buildings close?
The District does not have any plans for closed buildings yet.

Did you trick voters about closing schools?
No. The District shared plans to combine buildings at the Board of Education meeting in September 2023.
