In 2023, Columbus voters approved a levy that allocates $38.6 million per year toward the General Operating Fund and $60.49 million per year toward the Permanent Improvement fund. This funding has enabled the district to maintain staff and programming initially supported by federal ESSER funding, which was distributed to offset the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Key achievements facilitated by the levy include:
- Pre-Kindergarten Enrollment: Increased by 15% (238 students) between 2019 and 2024.
- Career Exploration: All 8th graders now participate in a permanently funded career exploration program.
- Interpreting and Translating Services: Dedicated Language Assistance Center staff interpreted 55,709 calls and meetings, translated 302 documents into the top five non-English languages, and supported 102 events during the 2023-2024 school year.
- Staffing Ratios: From fall 2019 to spring 2025, the student-to-counselor ratio decreased by 25%, the student-to-social worker ratio decreased by 44%, the student-to-safety & security specialist ratio decreased by 54%, and the student-to-custodian ratio decreased by 33%.
- Family Engagement: Family Ambassadors and Bilingual Engagement Liaisons made 20,842 contacts with families and hosted 693 events for families during the 2023-2024 school year.
- Capital Improvements: Planned updates for summer 2025 include HVAC in 13 schools, roofs on up to 8 facilities, building envelope on 20 schools, fire alarm in 11 schools, asphalt at 7 schools, classroom furniture at 10 schools, auditoriums and gymnasiums at 4 schools, playgrounds at 13 schools, and outdoor athletics facilities at 5 schools.
