Sankofa 2021 Wins Two National Awards
June 11, 2021 -- Columbus Africentric Early College’s televised event, Sankofa 2021, that recognized the contributions of African Americans in Central Ohio, has received two national awards.
Sankofa 2021 received a Gold Telly Award in the Television General, Educational category and a Bronze Telly Award in the Branded Content General, Social Impact category. Sankofa 2021 was broadcast on Columbus television station NBC 4 on February 23 in partnership with Mills James, who submitted Sankofa 2021 into the awards competition.
The Telly Awards, established in 1979, receives more than 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents and honors the best work from advertising agencies, television stations, and production companies from around the world.
“ I am grateful for this acknowledgment as it allows us to share the vision and mission of CAEC and CCS on a broader scale,” said Dr. Todd Walker, Director and High School Principal of CAEC. “I want to thank CCS Superintendent and CEO, Dr. Talisa Dixon, Dr. Angela Chapman, Chief of Transformation and Leadership, Dr. Luther Johnson, Area Superintendent of Region 6, and all of those who supported how the Sankofa event contributed to the greater Columbus community.”
This was the fourth Sankofa event at Columbus Africentric Early College High School. Twelve African Americans were honored this year and recognized for their impacts on the global community and how their contributions are not the exception but the rule. Through the Sankofa broadcast, Dr. Walker believes these leaders allow the community to grow together.
