    What is PBIS?
Indian Springs Elementary has always strived to create a safe and positive learning environment for all students. In an effort to reinforce our positive school climate, staff at Indian Springs have worked together to develop a PBIS Plan. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Support. The philosophy of this program is that by rewarding students for positive behavior through tickets, positive praise, and rewards, students will begin to build intrinsic motivation to behave in a positive way which will help create a positive learning environment in all areas of the school. Through the PBIS program, Indian Springs has developed a common language for behavior expectations in each area of the school- playground, lunchroom, restrooms, hallway, etc. We are excited to explain some of the other programming that has been created to reinforce PBIS programming throughout our building!

    The I.S.E. Way
Each student at Indian Springs Elementary is familiar with the phrase, “The I.S.E. Way”. This stands for I- Intelligent, S- Safe, E- Empathetic. Our student broadcasters remind students of the expectations every day during morning announcements- “We are I.S.E. We are Intelligent. We are Safe. We are Empathetic” and share examples of ways to exhibit these traits throughout the school day and beyond. In addition, these expectations are evidenced by expectation posters that have been placed throughout the building in specific areas. All of our PBIS programming ties back to these three behavioral expectations.

    Expectation Station Day
Students rotate throughout the building with their classroom teacher and visit the common areas- lunchroom, playground, restroom, hallway, etc. During this time, staff teach the student population how to display intelligence, safety and empathy (the I.S.E. Way) in the various areas. This is a fun way for students to learn about behavioral expectations across all educational contexts. This rotation schedule happens at the beginning of the year, so students learn what is expected.

    Self-Managers
Twice a month, Indian Spring Elementary staff will each recognize a student from their class who has been a good Self-Manager and demonstrated the I.S.E. Way. These expectations are displayed on posters in each classroom, and reinforced by the staff. Examples of these behaviors are also highlighted each week during the morning announcements. All nominated students will receive a postcard in the mail recognizing their achievement and have a special celebration with our School Counselor, Mrs. Kay where they will eat their lunch as a group in her room and also select a book to keep from our Book Vending Machine. The names of these nominated students will also be entered into a drawing and 4 lucky winners will receive a Self-Manager yard sign featuring our school mascot, Fritz Falcon.

Parents may send in a photo of their Self-Manager to be featured on our Self-Manager Bulletin Board in the main hall and on ISE TV (this is a PowerPoint that is only broadcast at Indian Springs ES on the CC television in the hall by the office).

    Falcon Tokens
These green and white tokens are used to promote positive behavior in common areas of the building, such as hallways and the cafeteria. All staff members have tokens, which they can award to students whom they witness demonstrating the I.S.E. Way. The individually earned tokens count toward a class total, which can then potentially earn the class a special treat like extra recess/free time! Class totals will be tallied twice a month (alternating weeks with our Self-Manager program) and the top two homerooms are announced over the PA system.

    Attendance Awareness Campaign
Encourage your student to be a Roll Call Role Model by coming to school on time every day. Students who show improved attendance have a chance to win weekly prizes, including tickets to Columbus Clippers games, food coupons from White Castle, Donatos and Tim Horton’s. You can learn more about what it means to be a Roll Call Role Model on the CCS district website.

In addition, Indian Springs students can earn a movie event during the last week of school for maintaining positive attendance and continuing to exemplify the ISE Way by showing Intelligence, Safety and Empathy.  This includes not having office referrals, staying engaged in the classroom, and completing assignments regularly.
