Fort Hayes to Unveil the Hindsight 2020 Project, Share New Exhibition Space
May 16, 2022 -- Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center will celebrate a new exhibition space on May 20, from 6 - 8 p.m., unveiling a powerful collection of student artwork, the Hindsight 2020 Project.
The project demonstrates Fort Hayes students’ unique voices through art, with approximately 40 pieces all reflecting the year 2020. The student artists will be present to share their thoughts behind their work, and several Fort Hayes alumni have been invited to meet with the students and serve as artist mentors.
Dr. Milton Ruffin, Principal/Director of Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center, said the project will be ongoing and evolve as more students add pieces to the collection. He added they have a long-term goal of making Hindsight 2020 a traveling project to share the work throughout Columbus City Schools and the community.
For now, the Hindsight 2020 Project will be displayed on the third floor of Building 64, which will serve as a second space to display student artwork, adding to the Shot Tower Gallery.
“My vision for this area has always been to have another exhibition space to give our young artists additional opportunities to present their art,” Ruffin said. “And that’s exactly what we are doing.”
In addition to the artwork, attendees can view the tremendous work completed by Fort Hayes Career Center Carpentry students. These students participated by building various partitions to create the new space.
It is a compilation of multiple talents and hard work on display on the Fort Hayes campus.
“Here at Fort Hayes, we don’t want to give our students voices. We want them to create and use their own voices and learn to harmonize with the world,” Ruffin said. “I’m thrilled we can give them the space to do so.”
