Frequently Asked Questions About the Class of 2020 Graduation Procedures

    Q: Why can’t we have an in-person graduation ceremony?
    A:  Please know that driving our decision to hold virtual-only graduation ceremonies during this global pandemic was doing everything we possibly can to keep our students, their families, our staff, and our community safe from COVID-19. As your Superintendent, ensuring that CCS did not put any of you in harm’s way with an in-person graduation ceremony has been top of mind for me since the very beginning of our school buildings being closed. A virtual graduation for the Class of 2020 does that.

    Q: How do I know what day to come and pick up my gown?
    A: Seniors will pick up their caps and gowns from their respective high schools on a staggered schedule developed by each building principal. Pick-up times will be scheduled by the students’ last name. 

    Q: My day to pick up my cap and gown won’t work, how do I change it?
    A: You will need to immediately email your building principal.

    Q: My family doesn't have a car. Where do we wait for cap and gown pick-up? 
    A:  Families without a vehicle will be directed to a designated area for cap and gown pick-up.

    Q: Do we have to wear a mask?
    A: Due to state health guidelines on social distancing, face masks or face coverings are strongly encouraged.

    Q: Will the gowns be in the school colors?
    A: Yes. 

    Q: Can I pay any outstanding fines by check, credit card, or cash?
    A: There are three options for paying student fees or past due fines. Please reach out to your school administrator to find out what, if any, fees/fines are owed.

    1. Credit card or eCheck payments can be made on Infinite Campus ​through student or parent portal.

    2. Cash​, check, money order or credit card payments can be made at Central Enrollment, 430 Cleveland Ave., 43215 during the following times:

    • Thursday, May 21, 2020 - 9:00 a.m.  – 12:00 p.m.
    • Tuesday, May 26, 2020 -  1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
    • Thursday, May 28, 2020 - 9:00 a.m.  – 12:00 p.m.

    3. Families can also mail a check or money order to Columbus Education Center (Student Fees/Fines), 270 E. State St., Columbus, OH 43215. Payment must include the student name, ID number, school, fine to be paid, and the amount. 

    Q: When will I be able to retrieve my personal belongings from my locker?
    A: Your principal will communicate the specific dates and times for students to pick up their supplies from the school. This process will run Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29.

    Q: My Chromebook, instrument, etc. was stolen or lost. What do I do?
    A: Families are responsible for missing electronic devices, instruments, etc. 

    Q: Do I need to have all school items turned in before graduation?
    A: Yes

    Q: How do I receive my diploma?
    A: Students will need to pick-up their diploma at a later date and time to be determined by your building principal. 

    Q: How do I find out the schedule for graduation?
    A: The Class of 2020 streaming schedule is posted on the District website at

    Q: When is Summer Graduation, and will it be virtual too?
    A: Summer Graduation is August 15, 2020, and will be a virtual-only ceremony as well. The ceremony will be streamed live at 6:30 p.m.
