Northgate Intermediate Site Based Council
2016-2017 Year in Review
Northgate Intermediate had a great first year for its Site Based Council (SBC). The council consisted of four members. The members included:
- Anita Miller (teachers),
- Sylvia Skipper (parent),
- Anna Fullen (Vineyard), and
- Andre Jones (principal).
The purpose of this year’s SBC was to establish partnerships with area businesses and community centers as wells as to provide opportunities for students to give back to the community and participate if after school activities.
Northgate was successful in establishing partnerships with The Vineyard Church and Community Center as well as with the Sharon Wood’s Church. The Vineyard provided a mentoring program for our 5th grade students as well as resources for teachers, students, playground, and school garden. The Sharon Wood’s Church provided parent classes, teacher professional development and is currently accepting applications for a summer enrichment program.
Northgate students gave back to the community this year by donating food/perishables to a local food bank and bottle tops to the Ronald McDonald Children’s House. Students also ran a clothing drive for winter hats/gloves and scarfs.
Girls on the Run kicked off its first year at Northgate Intermediate with a bang. We had over 15 girls participate in the program that took place after school two days a week. Northgate staff also participated and helped our young ladies set goals while empowering them in the process.
Northgate is thinking outside the box regarding activities and interest for our students. Northgate is offering a Fishing Club this summer for students and grandparents that is currently taking place at Sharon Wood’s Park.
Our Site Based Council is looking forward to the 2017-2018 school year with new members/partnerships and activities for our students to become leaders in the school as well as in the community.
