Students are identified as Gifted and Talented through the use of state-approved assessments. As outlined in House Bill 282, Ohio Revised Code 3301-51-15, the state of Ohio mandates that school districts identify students in four areas: superior cognitive ability, specific academic ability, creative thinking ability, and the visual and performing arts. Timelines for Gifted Referrals and Assessment for Superior Cognitive and Specific Academic Ability
2025-2026 School Year
First day of school - October 31st: Fall/Winter referrals for gifted testing accepted. Website link is active during this period.
First day of school - late September: Fall i-Ready testing window for Grades K-9 (grades 2-8 for gifted ID).
Early November: District-wide administration of NNAT (second-graders) and CogAT (fifth-graders) for superior cognitive ability.
December 1st - March 2nd: Winter/Spring referrals for gifted testing accepted. Website link is active during this period.
March 2nd - End of school year: Gifted testing administered in schools based on submitted referrals. Also, students who meet screening criteria on NNAT and CogAT will be tested.
May: Spring i-Ready testing window for Grades K-3 (grades 2 & 3 for gifted ID).

Timeline for Gifted Referrals and Assessment for Visual/Performing Arts Ability
2025- 2026 School Year
First day of school - October 31st: Referrals for visual/performing arts assessment accepted online.
November 15th: Parent permission forms for visual/performing arts assessment due to Gifted & Talented office.
December 1st: Initial arts checklists completed by Unified Arts teachers
December 10th: Last day for eligible students to sign up for final evaluation auditions/portfolio review.
December 13th: VPA auditions at Arts Impact Middle School
January 10, 2026: Results of checklists and audition information sent to families of evaluated students.
